This isn't a hit piece. Khan Academy is one of the most impressive educational resources ever created — free, comprehensive, and available to anyone with internet access. Sal Khan's explanations are clear, the exercises are well-designed, and the breadth of content is remarkable. If you have no budget and need to understand a specific topic quickly, Khan Academy is often the right answer.
The primary format of Khan Academy is video. Watching a clear explanation of a concept feels like learning — and it is, to a point. The problem is that recognition is not the same as recall. You can follow every step of a worked example and feel completely on top of it, then sit down to try a similar problem and find that you can't begin.
